Chisun Grand Akasaka becomes Japan’s First Green Globe-Benchmarked Hotel2008.04.23
Chisun Grand Akasaka (Minato Ward, Tokyo; General Manager: Vicky Wang), managed by Solare Hotels and Resorts Co. Ltd., has become the first hotel in Japan to be benchmarked by Green Globe, an international organization offering benchmarking and certification programs for promotion of sustainable tourism *1.
Based on Agenda 21, an action plan to manage environmental impact which was endorsed at the United Nations Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992, Green Globe provides companies, communities and consumers with a path to sustainable travel and tourism. The Green Globe program has been adopted in over 50 nations in Latin America and Asia Pacific, as well as North America and Europe. The Green Globe Japan Office was established in April 2006.
Chisun Grand Akasaka, in being awarded Green Globe benchmarked status has been recognised as having met environmental standards for accommodation facilities as defined by the following indicators: 1) Sustainability Policy, 2) Energy Consumption, 3) Water Consumption, 4) Waste Sent to Landfill, 5) Community Commitment, 6) Resource Conservation (Paper Resource), 7) Use of Cleaning Products, and 8) Use of Pesticide Products.
This achievement provides recognition by an independent third-party that Chisun Grand Akasaka is taking a proactive stance towards environmental protection by implementing eco-friendly practices, which not only enhance sustainability but also bring about cost-saving and competitive advantages.
Chisun Grand Akasaka General Manager Vicky Wang comments: “We will continue implementing eco-friendly practices, including further reducing the consumption of paper resources and energy, to build on our current results and obtain Silver Green Globe Certification.”

Green Globe is an organization which was developed in 1993 by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and officially launched in 1994. It offers a benchmarking and certification program as well as an improvement program designed for enhancing the sustainability of the tourism industry.
